The Right Coaching Mindset
As a pastor and a life coach, I understand the importance of having the right mindset when it comes to coaching. I have recently started reading "The Coach Model" by Keith E. Webb and chapter one talks about the Coaching Mindset as the foundation of effective coaching.
The Coaching Mindset, as explained in the book, is a way of thinking that focuses on the client's needs and goals. It recognizes that the client has the answers within themselves, and the coach's role is to help them discover those answers. A coach with a Coaching Mindset is one who is curious, non-judgmental, and has the ability to empower clients to take action.
What struck me the most about the Coaching Mindset was the focus on how important it is to set the tone for the coaching relationship. When a coach has a Coaching Mindset, they create a safe and trusting space for the client to explore their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. This exploration allows the client to be more open and honest, leading to deeper insights, which leads to tremendous progress.
According to Webb, the key components of the Coaching Mindset includes a client-centered approach. A coach with a Coaching Mindset will ask open-ended questions, will actively listen, and will seek to understand the client's perspective. They help clients set goals, develop action plans, and acknowledge and celebrate any successes.
