Are you sleeping on Your Marriage?

While this might sound like a crafty, slick, or hip title, there is a warning being implied that should be taken seriously. Don’t sleep on your marriage by not getting enough sleep in your marriage. Surely pulling a romantic all-nighter with your spouse can be wonderful. However, as much as it is important to make time for romance, it is just as important to make time for sleep.

Everyone knows what it feels like not to have enough sleep, but according to Psychology Today, Time Magazine, and other various professional resources, not getting enough sleep could be detrimental to your marriage

We sleep for more than a quarter of our lives. Sleep is crucial because it permits us to unwind, loosen up and dump the brain. Scientists will tell you that a properly functioning body helps you process emotions properly. People who do not get enough sleep can become fussy, dissatisfied, and moody. Sleep deprivation can make you irritable and easily annoyed. When you are sleep deprived, you can be apt to overreact to situations that ordinarily would not bother you.

For example, a co-worker’s negative attitude might normally be a minor annoyance that you generally overlook. But when you are sleep deprived, this could become the spark for world war three. Having a bill collector call might also be annoying at times. However, having a bill collector call when you are sleep deprived could lead to anxiety or emotional fits of rage. Coming home and finding a dish in the sink might normally be overlooked. But when you are sleep deprived, this minor thing could cause a major argument in your marriage.

Maybe this information seems simplistic, trivial, and inconsequential. But this information could be vital to saving your marriage.

The belief that more sleep makes a happier marriage isn’t absolutely new. A large body of research reveals that people who do not get enough sleep can be rude, controversial, or even adversarial toward their spouses. So, the next time you get the urge to sleep with your spouse, please ensure that afterward, you actually get some sleep with your spouse.
